Greetings All,
Welcome back from another great summer. Like you, we are sure squash is on everyone’s minds. This past year was an eventful one as we proudly celebrated our 40th anniversary as an organization while completing another successful league season that included 138 players on 19 unique teams across three divisions.
Seattle Squash is happy to update you with the following news regarding our upcoming annual Winter League Season. We’ve contacted many of you and surveyed our local membership for feedback. We’ve listened and are excited to provide you with some details about changes to the format that we think will enhance everyone’s experience. In particular, we have made changes to help with court congestion and have shortened the season. Essential information is listed below. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions, concerns, or suggestions at league@seattlesquash.com.
We recognize that you all play a vital role in the Puget Sound’s thriving squash scene, which is marked by a vibrant and diverse demographic with players ranging from seasoned professionals to enthusiastic amateurs, and encompassing a wide array of ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Without you, our longevity and continued vitality would not be possible. We thank you in advance for your participation and look forward to seeing you on court soon!
Sincerely,
Seattle Squash
When?
Start: Tuesday, October 15, 2025
End: Mid-February 2025
What day of the week are matches?
We are planning on including Tuesday and Non-Tuesday play this year. We are sorting out the details and will plan accordingly as we get further input from the local clubs. Plan on seeing some exciting play on Friday nights this season!
Who is Participating?
All local players with active U.S. Squash membership who are members of local clubs that provide court access to the league. We have seen interest from UW, Columbia, Pro Club, SAC, SAC-NG players. As in the past, we would also welcome teams from Harbor Square, WAC, Tacoma YMCA, and Bellevue Club.
Why is U.S. Squash membership required?
U.S. Squash supports our game, provides infrastructure for league play, and provides an important ranking system that we all use. By supporting U.S. Squash, we in turn support squash’s growth and development, support meaningful lifelong engagement in the sport, and encourage sportsmanship while achieving competitive excellence at the highest levels.
What are the US Squash rating cut-offs/guidelines for the Divisions?
D1 >=4.70
D2 4.11 – 4.69
D3 <= 4.10
How did you choose these cut-offs?
We polled our membership, analyzed prior season play, and came up with cut-offs that would emphasize fair play and promote an appropriate number of teams in each division.
What if I am unranked? Or What if my ranking does not really reflect my true level of play?
Seattle Squash can help give you an estimated rating so you can play in an appropriate division. If your rating falls outside the guidelines and would like to appeal down or up, please contact league@seattlesquash.com to explain your circumstances. Without placing an appeal, you will not be allowed to register for a division outside of these guidelines.
What if I don’t have a team?
NO WORRIES. We will help you find a team or can arrange for you to be a regular substitute if preferred. Please contact us at league@seattlesquash.com
What if I want to challenge myself and “play up”?
You are allowed to play in a division above your ranking guideline. There will also be opportunities to play as a “substitute” for another division. Rules to follow.
Play will not be allowed outside of regularly scheduled match time.
This is of particular importance to the local clubs and we demand that this request is respected. We plan on having a healthy “substitute” program in place to help with scheduling.
Anything else to decrease “court congestion”?
We understand that this has been an issue, and we hope that the measures outlined above will result in significant improvements. Our goal is to allot 1.5 courts for every two teams playing per event day.
How much does it cost?
$350 per team
$50 per sub (if not a full time member of another team.)
Do we get balls?
Each captain will be provided 2 cases of balls for the season.
Each captain is responsible for supplying one fresh ball per TEAM match
How do I sign up?
Giddy Up!!!! Team registration is open from 9/9/24-9/30/24. Please sign up ASAP as this will help significantly with match scheduling!
Captains will register by replying with their interest to league@seattlesquash.com and must pay the $350 team fee HERE (do not worry if you get an error message as you should receive email confirmation that payment has been processed.)
Seattle Squash will register the team at ClubLocker and then captains can begin filling their rosters (***please note: players cannot be added to the rosters without active U.S. Squash Membership.)
