Our second Referee Clinic was held on January 11, 2020, at the Seattle Athletic Club Northgate, with club pro Bruce Vinsonhaler. There were lots of questions, with a focus on reffing league games, followed by some scrumptious snacks!
Seattle hosted the 2019 Howe Cup during November 15-17, the largest squash event for women in the nation. Forty-four teams of five each competed in four divisions. The Cup began in 1928 as an inter-city competition between New York, Philadelphia, and Boston. The permanent trophy was donated in 1955 and named for US Squash Champion Margaret Howe and her twin daughters Peggy and Betty, who were also US Champions.
Howe Cup parties are (in)famous, and this year's was no exception! The theme was "Dress to Impress," and impress they did. Squash player and dance instructor Hallie Kuperman generously provided the venue at her Century Ballroom on Capitol Hill, and squash pro and DJ extraordinaire Annalize Naude quickly got the crowd going wild.
Major thanks to the Seattle planning committee (Amanda Thorman, Annelize Naude, Hallie Kuperman, Julie Santos, Karen Arango, Kathy Nash, Laura Bachman, Lulu Chou and Tatu Murronmaa), the Seattle Athletic Club for making things run so smoothly, and to our local sponsors including Lulu's Hattitudes, Prism Kites, the Zach Santos Band, and the Seattle Squash Racquets Association. The 2019 Washington State Open was held October 25-27, 2019 at the Columbia Athletic Club. Thanks to all the players and volunteers who made this a terrific event! Special thanks to Cody Glad, the club manager, for his hospitality, food, drink, and help. The event was smoothly run by Tournament Director Therese Tuppeny, ably assisted Bradley Cross and Doug Lind. Many thanks also to Alex Luft for donating squash balls, to Eric Williams for his referee expertise, and to Karen Arango for tech support!
YSK Events held this incredible event at the PRO Club over two days. It started with the clinic on Sunday afternoon (Sunday, October 2nd 2016) in which players were able to spend time doing drills and playing games with Greg & Miguel.
Greg & Miguel then played an exhibition match that went to 5 sets on Monday evening. It was a real treat and we are grateful to Azam, Shabana and the rest of the Khan family for their support in bringing this event to Bellevue.
